Private live Quran lessons for Pakistani families in Oslo, Drammen, Lillestrøm, Bergen and across Norway, at the same clock time all year round.

Quran lessons for Pakistani families in Norway

Pakistani families have lived in Norway since the late 1960s and early 1970s, and the community, centred on Oslo, is now into its third generation and beyond. Many of those families have roots in Kharian, Gujrat and the villages around them, and many still travel back for summers and weddings. Today children of Pakistani heritage in Oslo, Drammen, Lillestrøm, Bergen, Stavanger and elsewhere are Norwegian through and through, while their parents and grandparents want them to keep the Quran close. One-to-one online Quran classes help by bringing a qualified teacher to your home over a live video call.

OQC.com.pk teaches from Pakistan to students worldwide. Every lesson is private, so the teacher listens to one student only. Families in other European countries can read about online Quran classes in Germany and the UK.

A lesson that does not move with the sun

Life in Norway follows the light, and prayer times swing more than almost anywhere Pakistani families live. In Oslo in midwinter the sun sets in the middle of the afternoon; in midsummer Isha can come very late, and further north the swing is even greater. Families who tie Quran lessons to "after Maghrib" find the lesson drifting from mid-afternoon to near midnight over the year.

The simple answer is to fix the lesson to a clock time. Because we teach 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, your child's lesson can stay at the same Norwegian time all year, for example 5 pm on weekdays, whatever the season. When Norway changes its clocks in late March and late October, our team keeps the lesson at the same local time. Pakistan is 4 hours ahead of Norway in winter and 3 hours ahead in summer.

  • After school or SFO: a short lesson once children are home.
  • Early evening: after dinner, when a parent can sit in.
  • Weekend mornings: for families busy with football, swimming or skiing in the week.
  • Late evening: for adults learning for themselves.

Third-generation children, first-rate reading

Many children of Pakistani heritage in Norway speak Norwegian as their first language, with some Urdu or Punjabi at home. Their grandparents may have learned the Quran in a village mosque in Gujrat; the children need a different approach. One-to-one lessons start from your child's real level, use patient repetition, and focus on the Arabic sounds that Norwegian speakers find hardest, such as the throat letters and the heavy letters. When you book, tell us which language your child prefers for explanations, and our team will take it into account.

Grandparents often want to be part of it, and they can. They can sit beside the child during the lesson, and relatives in Pakistan can follow progress through the same WhatsApp number. If your family has cousins learning in Gujrat, they can study with us too, each at their own local time.

Summers in Pakistan

Long summer holidays are when many Norwegian-Pakistani families travel to Kharian, Gujrat, Jhelum or Lahore. With most tutors, that means weeks without lessons and a slow restart in August. With online lessons, the same teacher continues from Pakistan, and the lesson returns to Norwegian time when you fly home.

How a lesson works

Teacher and student both keep their video on and see each other at the side of the screen. The teacher screen-shares the page being studied, a lesson from the Noorani Qaida or a page of the Quran, and points to the word to be read. The student reads aloud from the shared page, and the teacher corrects pronunciation, joining and Tajweed straight away. On the Monday to Friday plan each lesson lasts 30 minutes. See how it works.

Questions from families in Norway

What is the time difference between Norway and Pakistan?

Pakistan is 4 hours ahead of Norway in winter and 3 hours ahead in summer, because Norway changes its clocks and Pakistan does not. A 5 pm lesson in Oslo is 9 pm in Pakistan in winter and 8 pm in summer.

Prayer times change so much here. How do we keep the lesson regular?

Fix the lesson to a clock time rather than a prayer. Because we teach 24/7, the lesson can stay at, say, 5 pm Oslo time all year, whether Maghrib is mid-afternoon in December or late at night in June.

Our children speak Norwegian at home. Can the teacher explain in Norwegian?

Tell us which language the student is most comfortable with when you request the trial. Our team takes your preference into account when arranging the teacher.

We spend the summer in Pakistan. Can lessons continue there?

Yes. The same teacher continues from Pakistan at a new local time, and the lesson returns to your usual Norwegian time when you go home.

What is the fee?

The Monday to Friday plan is PKR 7,500 a month per student for 20 one-to-one 30-minute live classes a month, Monday to Friday. Our team explains how to pay from Norway and discusses the fee for any other schedule.

Are female teachers available?

Yes. Female teachers are available on every course for girls, young children and women.

Is the first lesson free?

Yes. The trial lesson is free, with nothing to pay and no obligation.
