Online Quran classes in the UK

Live one-to-one Quran lessons for British Pakistani families, kept at the same UK time all year, from a teacher in Pakistan.

Quran lessons for British Pakistani families

Pakistani families across the UK, from Bradford, Birmingham and Manchester to London, Glasgow, Luton and Slough, want their children to read the Quran properly. Evening madrasah classes and weekend schools do valuable work, but they are often busy, held at fixed times and shared by many children of different levels. Many parents also juggle long working hours and school runs, which makes a daily trip to a class hard to sustain. One-to-one online lessons let your child learn at home, with their own teacher, at a UK time that suits your family.

OQC.com.pk is based in Pakistan and teaches students worldwide. Every lesson is live and one-to-one: the teacher listens to each word your child reads and corrects it there and then. This page is for families in the UK; for the Gulf, Europe, North America and elsewhere, see Quran classes for overseas Pakistanis.

UK time, all year round

Pakistan stays on the same time all year, while the UK moves between GMT in winter and BST in summer. That means Pakistan is 5 hours ahead of the UK in winter and 4 hours ahead in summer. You do not need to work any of this out. We teach 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so you choose a time in UK time and we keep the lesson at that UK time when the clocks change.

  • After school: 4 pm to 6 pm UK time is popular for primary-age children.
  • After dinner: an evening slot when a parent can sit nearby.
  • Weekend mornings: for families whose weekdays are already full.
  • Early morning or late night: for parents who want lessons of their own around work.

How a lesson works

Teacher and student both turn their video on and can see each other at the side of the screen. The teacher screen-shares the page being studied, a lesson of the Noorani Qaida or a page of the Quran, and points to each word. Your child reads from the shared page on a laptop, tablet or phone, and the teacher corrects pronunciation, joining and Tajweed straight away. On the Monday to Friday plan each lesson is 30 minutes, which suits a school night.

All you need is a device with a camera, home broadband or a decent mobile signal, and a quiet corner. Our how it works page explains the setup.

Help with the sounds English speakers find hard

Children growing up in the UK speak English all day at school. Some Arabic sounds, such as the heavy letters, the letters pronounced from the throat, and the difference between similar-looking letters, have no exact match in English and are easy to get wrong without regular correction. In a one-to-one lesson the teacher hears every letter, so these sounds are corrected early rather than left to settle into habits. Older students can then move on to Tajweed to polish their recitation.

Courses

  • Noorani Qaida: letters, sounds and joining, for complete beginners.
  • Nazra Quran: fluent, accurate reading from the Mushaf.
  • Tajweed: the rules of recitation, practised verse by verse.
  • Hifz: memorising selected surahs or the whole Quran.
  • Islamic Studies: salah, duas, kalimas and daily basics for children.

The teacher checks your child's level in the free trial and suggests where to begin. See the full course list.
